Rainbow Bridge | A tribute to Cassie

Rainbow Bridge | A tribute to Cassie

This past Friday we said goodbye to our sweet senior girl, Cassie. Her story, as told by Cassie’s foster, Karen, is in the link below and like everything she did for Cassie, she put her whole heart into it and it’s a wonderful tribute.

At 14years old, Cassie was the oldest dogs that ALR had ever rescued, but her owner was in such a bind and her story was so sad, we felt compelled to take her into the program. The first person I called was Karen and had she not agreed to foster, I’m not sure we would’ve been able to help. I knew that she would be in good hands and Karen left no stone unturned in her quest to give Cassie the best that life had to offer, even spending her own money to try some alternative ways, like acupuncture, to make her comfortable. Cassie lived almost another 2 years at Karen’s house and I’m betting they were the best years of her life.

The folks that took in Cassie have to be hidden angels. I just lost my 13 year old lab almost a month ago and know that every day we’re given with these wonderful animals is a blessing. Thanks for sharing your story about Cassie. It’s very inspiring!

God Bless Cassie and her caregiver in her last two years of her life. I too rescued a 13 year old lab. “Katie” only lasted 18 months but I also think they were the best 18 months of her entire life from the evidence of her health and coat. She went from a grungy, thin and lethargic victim to a healthy, soft coated, energetic and well rounded girl. She was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known and we were indeed blessed to have had her in our lives even for such a short time. Senior adoptions are the best. They truly appreciate everything you do because they know there are other options.
In the song “I WILL REMEMBER YOU”, the last verse’s lyrics are as follows:

I’m so afraid to love you
    But more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn’t let me choose
    Once there was a darkness
    Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me life

God bless all the seniors who live a painful end. God bless those who reach out and save a senior. Both are truly blessed – dog and caregiver.
